Our Studio

Since 1999, Kennedy Nolan has developed a reputation as a design-focused practice with a distinct approach to built form.

As practitioners, we’re dedicated to producing architecture that’s highly responsive to its context and forms a strong relationship with landscape. We pride ourselves on an innovative approach to public and residential projects. We deliver a highly responsive design sensitive to its context that incorporates sustainable design initiatives while achieving the requirements of our brief.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land we learn and work on.

We pay respect to their Elders, both past and present, and their spiritual relationship with their land and Country.

We commit to creating inclusive and meaningful outcomes alongside our local and extended community.

We are in the process of developing an Indigenous engagement strategy, as we are committed to overcoming the gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

The strategy will define a methodology for engaging the Indigenous community for all projects – beginning with the local Indigenous community of the land we are working on – early in the design process to discuss the site and its history.

In 2022, Reconciliation Australia formally endorsed our 'Reflect' Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). We are currently in the process of implementing this RAP, and developing our subsequent 'Innovate' RAP.

Carbon Neutral

We are now carbon neutral in operation!

The work of our practice is generated through an investigation of how people want to live, work and learn.

The test of our work is whether it results in people being inspired, fully realised and happy. To make design that accomplishes this, the practice has focused on building a team with shared values, respect and affection for each other.

Our team has developed a common understanding of the necessity of sustainability. Together, we are searching for ways to positively impact the environment through our workplace decision-making. This thinking informs our design approach, too.

St Mary's College

Creating a ‘village’ school structure to facilitate high quality learning outcomes.

The St Mary’s project saw the realization of Stage 1 of the St Mary’s Master Plan. The project involved a series of upgrades across the campus to address compliance and equitable access issues.

The focus of the project was a new central stair and two-way lift structure to the eastern elevation of the 1960s McCartney Wing building. Facing the heart of the College campus, the stair is designed as a complementary but contemporary addition, connecting and enhancing the existing array of dilapidated 20th century buildings and paying homage the school historic past.
